24 Year Old Memphis Male Charged with Aggravated Arson
The Memphis Fire Department responded to a report of an apartment fire at 4759 Tulane Road, Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 6:27 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene at 6:31 a.m., firefighters reported no indication of fire or smoke from the two story wood-frame apartments. Eleven (11) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately thirty (30) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. Lieutenant C. Wilkins was the commanding officer of this incident. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. It has been determined that several articles of clothing were intentionally set on fire in the bedroom area. The occupants extinguished the fire prior to the arrival of fire crews. The residence did have a working smoke detector. Total damage is estimated at $500 structure and $500 contents. Memphis Fire Investigator's arrested and charged a twenty-four (24) year old male, Otavis Hill, with Aggravated Arson. Anyone with information regarding arson related crimes are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH (2274) or the State Arson Hotline at 1-800-762-3017. You could be eligible to receive a cash reward from Crime Stoppers of Memphis and Shelby County, Inc. The Memphis Fire Department urges all citizens to maintain a working smoke detector in their place of residence. Any City of Memphis resident can apply for a free smoke detector by contacting the Fire Museum of Memphis at (901) 320-5650. Always have a plan of escape in case there is a fire.
