Abilene Firefighters Dispatched to Scene of Tractor Trailer & Train Collison
At 5:20 on June 7, 2012, units of the Abilene Fire Department were dispatched to the scene of a tractor-trailer / train collision near the intersection of T&P Lane and Sandy Street. Units arrived to find the damaged tractor on the railroad tracks, approximately seventy-five yards east of the T&P Lane / railroad intersection. The driver and sole occupant of the tractor managed to free himself from the vehicle before responders arrived. This thirty-seven year-old male was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries. Firefighters assessed the scene for hazards and determined that the only hazardous material release consisted of diesel fuel spilled from the tractor's tanks. Notification was made to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Environmental Protection Agency. Firefighters remained at the scene until approximately 8 AM. Units of the Abilene Police Department, representatives of Union Pacific Railroad, and representatives of the trucking company remained on-scene. Author:Abilene Fire Department Press Release
