Investigators Claim Vacant Apartment Fire in Memphis Intentionally Set
The Memphis Fire Department responded to a report of an apartment of fire at3685 Winchester Park Circle, Friday, June 22, 2012 at 4:04 a.m. Upon arrival onthe scene at 4:09 a.m., firefighters reported smoke visible from the two storywood-frame vacant apartments. Rescue and Firefighting operations beganimmediately. Seventeen (17) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately forty-five(45) emergency response personnel ultimately responded to the call. ActingDivision Chief A. Sullivan was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire wasbrought under control at 4:28 a.m. and reported knocked down 4:41 a.m. Therewere no firefighter or civilian injuries. Seven (7) units sustained smoke, fire and/or water damage. Total damage isestimated at $62,350 building and no contents. The origin and cause of the firewas determined to be intentionally set in the hallway area. This fire remains underinvestigation. Anyone with information regarding arson related crimes are asked to callCrime Stoppers at 528-CASH (2274) or the State Arson Hotline at 1-800-762-3017. You could be eligible to receive a cash reward from Crime Stoppers ofMemphis and Shelby County, Inc. The Memphis Fire Department urges all citizensto maintain a working smoke detector in their place of residence. Any City ofMemphis resident can apply for a free smoke detector by contacting the FireMuseum of Memphis at (901) 636-5650. Always have a plan of escape in case thereis a fire.
