Madison Fire Personnel Out in Force to Support Camp Hero

The City of Madison Fire Department continues to make diversity a focus of its recruitment efforts. On June 7th, 2012, members of the Department will donate their time to support a program that aims to increase diversity in the fire service.

CampHERO was created by professional firefighters, paramedics, police officers, detectives, and many other professional women and men within the Protective Services Field with the guidance of a group of Girl Scouts. Part skill-building experience and part career exploration; Camp Hero will cover a two-week period in July and offers a program opportunity for girls at every grade level. It is not necessary to be a Girl Scout to participate.

A Be The Hero benefit takes place this evening Thursday, June 7th, 6-11 p.m. at the Madison Curling Club, 4802 Marsh Road, McFarland..

Lt. Jennifer Roman has been one of the leaders of the CampHERO initiative. She's recruited members of the Department for a variety of activities to generate funding for the camp. Among them:

• Paramedic Gail Campbell on percussion with the band VO5
  
• Celebrity Bartenders working for tips to donate to CampHERO include Madison Police Chief Noble Wray, Madison Fire Department Division Chiefs Art Price and Laura Laurenzi
  
• Sumo Wrestling matches with Division Chiefs Chief Ernie Martinez and Art Price vs the highest bidders
  
• Division Chief Ron Schwenn in the dunk tank
