Rancho Cucamonga Firefighers Rescue Injured Hikers at Etiwanda Preserve
At approximately 8:20 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012, Rancho Cucamonga Firefighters responded to a report of an injured hiker at a waterfall in the Etiwanda Preserve area in northeastern Rancho Cucamonga.More than a dozen firefighters responded to the call with specialized rescue equipment to aid the injured hikers. With an hour long trek into the remote area, rescue crews reached the two adult males after nightfall. Firefighter/Paramedics began assessing and treating the men who both sustained injuries from their 20’ fall into the water. Another team of rescuers focused on how to extract the patients from the area. At the time of this release, the patients have yet to be extracted from the waterfall area and rescue teams may wait until daybreak to do so.Rancho Cucamonga firefighters were assisted by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies and Aviation crews, West Valley Search & Rescue Team as well as American Medical Response (AMR).
