Loading Fire departments across the United States are turning to Losberger US to provide them with temporary, cost effective fire house solutions. The 90 year old company, based in Frederick, Maryland, manufactures portable aluminum-framed buildings that fire departments can use to temporarily house their apparatus and equipment anywhere from one weekend up to six years. The durable vinyl-covered structures are flame retardant and can withstand snow and up to 90 MPH winds. They can be constructed within one week, and can be moved to different locations if necessary. Losberger offers the temporary fire house buildings in a variety of sizes, with the largest offering being 164' wide with 6 bays. According to Pat Moughan, the company's General Manager, the most popular and cost effective size is a 50' x 50' building that can house 3 fire trucks with room for gear and a changing area. Moughan says that this unit costs approximately $12.00 per square foot. With the economic slump that is affecting municipalities across the United States, an increasing number of fire departments are considering these temporary buildings for their station needs. Pat Moughan says, "We've had a lot of interest in the temporary market, and it was definitely due to building projects being put on hold and trying to find a quicker solution that's a lot more cost effective." For fire departments that have purchased a Losberger building for use while their permanent structure is being built, there is a good resale market that will allow them to sell the unit when they are finished using it.
