Fireworks Cause Highway 80 Fire in Abilene, Texas

At approximately 10:15pm on July 22, 2012 a call was placed to 911 for a structure fire in the 1900 block of East Hwy 80 in Abilene, Texas.

Upon arrival Fire Crews found a vacant motel involved in fire and quickly brought the blaze under control. Fire investigators determined that nearby residents careless use of Fireworks was the cause of the fire.

There were no injuries in relation to this fire to citizens or Fire Personnel.

In all 3 Engines, 1 Ladder Truck, Battalion 1, Field Resource Medic and Arson Investigator responded to this call.

Damages are estimated to be very low as the structure was run down and has not been in service for quite some time.

A new partnership has been formed between the University of California San Diego, CAL FIRE, and San Diego County that is helping CAL FIRE/San Diego County FIre Authority to monitor the rural areas of San Diego, California for wildfires. The project, known as FireSite, is using webcams to show firefighters, Incident Commanders and dispatchers a real time, 360 degree view of areas that were previously difficult to view.
